What is Algorand (ALGO)?
Algorand is an open-source blockchain network founded by Silvio Micali in 2017. The whitepaper was published in the same year by Silvio along with Jing Chen. Steve Kokinos is the CEO of Algorand and the whole team is comprised of researchers and cryptographers. Algorand Foundation oversees the development and adoption of the network. Through the Algorand blockchain, the team aims to create a borderless economy. ALGO is the native cryptocurrency of the chain and was initially distributed through an IEO on Binance in 2019. It is estimated that around 3 Billion ALGO tokens are in circulation as of writing. Though Algorand is new to the market, it caught the eye of the crypto enthusiasts due to the tech behind it. It uses a Pure Proof-of-Stake and has faster processing speeds. Algorand 2.0 is in works and boasts features like smart contracts and atomic swaps.
